Nancy Hathaway, M.Ed., LpastC, is the founder of Being Present With Our Children and Center for Studying Mindfulness. Nancy is a parent educator and counselor with a private practice in Blue Hill and Portland, Maine, where she works with other parents, couples and individuals. She has been a consultant to corporations, colleges, grammar schools, and HMOs teaching college courses at Colby, Husson and University of Maine. She has trained and worked in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D. and teaches at Maine Medical Center and School Street Yoga. As a Senior Dharma Teacher of the Kwan Um School of Zen, she has led numerous retreats, workshops, and classes. She is passionate about helping parents hold the emotions of themselves and their children to cultivate living everyday life in centeredness and responding to life rather than reacting from old patterns.
She is the author of "I'm Breathing, Are You?" an essay published by Shambala Publications in three anthologies, Your Children Will Raise You, Finding Your Inner Mama and was selected for the anthology, The Best Buddhist Writing 2006. She has written an essay for grandparents in Wondrous Child.
She is the mother of two grown happy, successful, and compassionate sons.
