Being Present With Our Children

The Study & Practice of Mindful Parenting

Approach to Parenting

One of the greatest delights in being a parent is being present with our children. When we are truly present, we feel complete, whole and fully alive. The practice of parenting mindfully means being in touch/ aware/ present with what is happening in our lives right now, in this moment with loving, non-judgmental attention. When we use mindfulness to be more in touch with our children, we are able to take delight in the small pleasures of everyday life, as well as being better able to stand in the middle of chaos. As we become more centered and balanced, we can respond to stressful situations with clarity and freshness instead of reacting out of old patterns. Living mindfully with our families, we provide a more loving home, as well as a role model for our children as they explore the world around them.

The programs approach to parenting is experiential. The skills that are taught are in the form of exercises that can be practiced over time with increasing success. The workshops and classes provide support and opportunities to learn from other parents who are exploring the same approach. Telephone appointments and one-on-one sessions are offered. Nancy is available for talks to nursery schools, parenting groups, etc.
